The Children’s
Vision Fund
The Children’s Vision Fund is a collaborative effort led by Eyes On Learning, Vitalyst Health Foundation, VisionQuest 20/20, and Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust to raise and invest funds to make high-quality vision screening and vision treatment available at no cost to every public and charter school in Arizona.
The Children’s Vision Fund ensures that Arizona schools, especially Title I schools and schools in rural districts, have the tools they need to effectively screen students for potential vision problems and connect children and families to follow-up vision care and treatment options.
The Fund aims to raise and invest $10 million dollars by 2030, generating approximately $500,000 annually, to support:
- Statewide access to the EyeSpy 20/20 Vision Health Suite, a web-based vision screening tool and smart phone application; additional tools may be identified and added
- Technology, software maintenance, and system improvements
- Free vision screening kits and school-based resources
- Enhanced referral pathways and care navigation
- Data systems that track follow-up care and outcomes
Over $4 million in grants has been secured to date. Funders include: The Stardust Foundation, The Steele Foundation, Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, Vitalyst Health Foundation, and The Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation.
Every dollar raised supports the Fund’s mission to advance children’s vision health.
Advisory Committee
The Children’s Vision Fund is a collaborative effort guided by a cross-sector advisory board representing education, healthcare, public health, early childhood, philanthropy, and business. Partners include:
Eyes On Learning, led by Director Laura Kemp, is a coalition of state, local, and national organizations dedicated to improving the vision health of Arizona’s children.
Vitalyst Health Foundation, represented by President and CEO Roy Pringle, who has served on the Eyes On Learning Advisory Board since its inception.
VisionQuest 20/20 is an Arizona-based nonprofit and creator of EyeSpy20/20, an innovative, technology-based vision screening system. VisionQuest 20/20 is led by Richard Tirendi, co-founder and CEO, and Dr. James O’Neil, MD, co-founder, board chair, and pediatric ophthalmologist.
Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, led by President and CEO Steve Zabilski. Piper Trust fully funds Eyes On Learning’s operations, ensuring that 100% of all donations to the Children’s Vision Fund go directly to children’s vision health efforts.
